2006
Congratulations to Billy Edmond for winning the 2006 East Kilbride Singles!
2006 EK Singles Report
The first two rounds were full of no shows, with a lot of guys getting bye's through one or even two rounds. Some cracking matches in the last 128 nonetheless though, with Stevie Ross knocking out Superleague 11's player Alec Campbell, Doc knocking out Scott Fergie, Ewan Fraser beating Lee Crawford and Stevie McCrimmond knocking out the experienced Raymy Devlin.
Onto the last 64, and Scott Collins knocked out reigning Player of the Year Iain MacMillan, while Shez Suleman fell in a final frame decider to Alan Agnew. Stevie Buchanan edged past Stu Robertson while the impressive Ian '8 ball' McColl trounced team-mate Grant McNairn 4-1. Another impressive result saw the Hunters Jim Burrell knock out former Scotland International Ian Livingstone 4-1, while Lee Miller trounced Stevie Ross 4-0 in double quick time.
By the time we got to the last 32, the shocks were arriving and a lot of big names had been knocked out. Former chairman Robert Gillies knocked out holder kev irving in a final frame decider, and Stevie Buchanan edged the final frame to knock out Arthur Russo. Maxi ended the run of Ian McColl, while fellow Hustler Billy Edmond sent out a warning with a convincing win over Jim Burrell. Scott Collins despatched Stevie McCrimmond and Jason Campbell stormed through an all-Murray match despatching his captain John Martin 4-1.
The last 16 saw Wullie Grant storm back from two down to beat his mate Marty Thom, while Lee 'the jackal' Miller whitewashed Ian Snodgrass to put himself through. Scott Collins despatched Jason Campbell of the Murray while Raymy Toms trounced Robbo 4-0. The bottom half of the draw saw Billy 'the Guvnor' Edmond and Andy Mason cruise through against Stevie Buchanan and Robert Gillies to set up an intriguing last 8 game. The bottom half saw Oby edge a final frame win against Alan Agnew who can count himself unlucky to lose after the final black bounced back out the bag. Final game saw Maxi beat Allan Clare 4-2 ina good match.
Last 8 saw Lee ease past Wullie 5-1 while surprise package Raymy Toms continued his fine form to edge into the semi-finals with a final frame win against Scott Collins. Billy edged past Andy Mason 5-3 and Maxi came from 4-2 down to beat Oby 5-4 in a match which could really have gone either way.
Despite a heroic effort, Raymy's run came to an agonising end in the semis, losing a final frame decider to Lee Miller who came back well to (almost) silence Raymy's vocal supporters. The second semi looked to be a cracker in prospect, but Billy was awesome and roared through 5-0 in the second semi.
The final was always going to be close, and after trading early frames, Lee dished up to put himself 3-2 up. This only served to spur the Guvnor on and he took out three on the bounce to win the game 5-3. It was a well deserved win, especially given the calibre of opponents he had to beat to win it.
And so the event finished accompanied by the chants of 'Hullo Hullo we are billy's boys' from the one and only Stevie Kelly.
